The House

The Old Forge is nestled in the village of Antigny, which lies just over an hour from La Rochelle, Poitiers and Nantes on the Western coast of France. To find out more about getting to The Old Forge, please click here.
As the name, suggests, The Old Forge used to be the village forge in centuries gone by although fortunately, we’ve made a few changes since then, making it a lovely, relaxing place to stay for your perfect French holiday.

The house sleeps 12 people in three double bedrooms, two twin rooms and a double bunk bed (ideal for children). Of these bedrooms, five are in the main building and one (a twin room) is just adjacent to the house in a converted stables, complete with stable door.
There are four reception rooms. The lounge has luxurious brown leather sofas, a large fireplace and log burner complete with a piano, TV, video and DVD player.

The snug lies next to the lounge providing a cosy getaway – it has a deep pile rug, two soft armchairs, a rustic bookshelf brimming with novels and travel guides, a TV and DVD player.
Next up is the dining room – complete with a large mahogany dining table perfect for family feasts or romantic meals alike, it even has a Villeroy and Bosch dining set for that added touch of class!
The study is located towards the rear of the house and offers a quiet spot to work with plenty of natural light, a sizeable desk and easy wi-fi internet access.

The fully equiped kitchen
The kitchen is the heart of any home and The Old Forge doesn’t disappoint. With a large kitchen table, 8 ring range, full compliment of kitchen utensils, tools and cutlery, preparing meals is made easy. The house also comes fitted with a fridge, (a separate) freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer – meaning that you can enjoy your holiday without worrying about the washing up or drying your clothes!
There are three bathrooms – two of which have a bath / shower and heated towel rails too.
The gîte has an enclosed rear courtyard where there is lots of space for guests to relax on the wooden garden furniture and take in the sun, read in the shade of an umbrella or BBQ when you get hungry. In the evening, it’s perfect for gazing up at the dazzling night sky free of light pollution!
We’ve also thought of your excursions whilst away and if you look in the utility room, you’ll find a full picnic set and set of deck chairs for you to enjoy during your stay.
Getting to The Old Forge
Travel to The Old Forge is simple whether you choose to drive of fly. France has an excellent road network making crossing via Eurotunnel or if you prefer to cross The Channel by ferry, from the port of Calais The Old Forge is within a 6 hour drive and the port of St Malo, a 3 hour drive (this involves a longer ferry crossing from Portsmouth).
Alternatively, you can fly into La Rochelle airport, Nantes or Poitiers, which are all serviced by the budget airlines. From there car hire is available through Hertz, Avis and Europcar (please prebook with your preferred rental company) and the gîte is an hours drive from there.
